We continue to be inspired by your passion for helping people and this industry and we were delighted to be together again to honor your collective achievements.
“We all have the same goal in this room, the same purpose, to deliver on our promises to our clients and to help shape the future of Guardian. And thanks to you, our future has no limits.” - Leyla Lesina
Hall of Fame
For 2021, our newest addition to Guardian’s Hall of Fame is Steve Ferrara.

After joining Guardian in the 1970s and running his agency like a family, Steve is retiring. His career of more than 45 years has spanned three generations and the Ferrara family shares a lot of history with Guardian. He has worked with seven Guardian CEOs and has served on the Field AdvisoryBoard numerous times.

Steve’s greatest honor was when his son, Christopher, joined his agency — making it a third-generation Guardian firm. In honor of Christopher’s work ethic and love for our profession, Guardian renamed the New Agent of the Year Award in his name.

Field Service Award

This award provides the field with the opportunity to single out and honor a home office colleague. The Field Service Award recognizes someone who has continually provided exemplary service to the field — not just for a given year, but over the course of a career.

The 2021 Field Service Award winner was Leyla Lesina. Leyla was noted for her accomplishments in her eight outstanding years at Guardian. She’s led the way in agency footprint and succession, recruiting and development, agent and sales productivity, and the list goes on. Her colleagues praise her intelligence, sense of humor, adventurous spirit, global citizenry, and the vital role she plays as a leader and engaged, devoted participant in the team’s successes.
Rewarding Achievement
Platinum Agencies
Achieving the Platinum Agency designation is a crowning achievement for any Guardian agency. Congratulations to those who have achieved success across the growth trifecta — recruiting, production, and leadership. You inspire us at the home office and your peers to reach for greatness!

2022 President's Council

Sunshine and ocean views greeted Guardian’s top FRs as they gathered in July 2022 at a coastal California paradise to celebrate the previous year’s President’s Council qualifiers. It was a wonderful year too, as there were a record number of qualifiers in several award categories — including 21 first-time President’s Council qualifiers!

The July event celebrated important milestones that these top FRs have reached in their careers. Leyla Lesina delivered opening remarks at the awards ceremony, thanking everyone for their partnership, dedication, and collaboration that make what we do in The Guardian NetworkTM possible.

“It is our values, our collective promise to our clients and communities that keeps us connected, whether this is your first, twelfth, or thirty-sixth time at council.”

Leyla Lesina
Head of Agency Distribution

Chairman’s Council qualifiers

Michael Ferik joined Leyla onstage to recognize those FRs who achieved the highest bar Guardian sets for achievement, the Chairman’s Council. These professionals represent the essence of Guardian and the best-of-the-best.

Coming next year!

Pinnacle Council will be expanded to the Pinnacle & Peak Council. While Pinnacle Council qualifiers will remain the top 20 Registered Representatives in GDC, the new Peak Council members will qualify by being one of the top 21-40 Registered Representatives in GDC.

Next year’s qualifiers will be based on production year 2022. Individuals who meet the requirement for Pinnacle and Peak will be invited to the annual Pinnacle & Peak Council. Pinnacle Council producers will receive an additional day at the Council.

We’re excited to announce that we’ll celebrate this expanded award in 2023 at The Breakers Palm Beach in Palm Beach, Florida!

At the end of each year, Guardian chooses five Financial Representatives (FRs) to receive Top Honor recognition for their introductions in that year. The awards are based on several calculations, including the number of referrals and the productivity and retention of those referrals. Top Honor Award winners must also achieve Leaders Club in that year. The first prize is $10,000 for the winner’s charity of choice, $5,000 for the second- and third-place winners, and $2,500 for the fourth- and fifth-place honorees.

Stephen Peterson

Elevate Financial

FR Stephen Peterson earned the “Top Honor Award” for Guardian’s 2022 Talent Introduction Program, allowing him to choose a qualified charity to receive a $10,000 donation on his behalf from Guardian.

As a fourth-stage stroke survivor, Stephen chose the American Heart Association (AHA) — a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing death and disability from cardiovascular diseases like stroke. The AHA helped Stephen throughout his                                                      recovery process and occupies a special place in his heart.

“I believe my life story can motivate people and help them see that giving up on their dreams is not an option.”

“When I was paralyzed and blind, I would continuously say to myself that I will walk and talk normally again. I want people to know they can go through gnarly adversity, challenges, and obstacles and get through the other end of it. My mission is to be of service to those in need.”

This mission of never giving up has been a common theme throughout Stephen’s career. From selling knives, to shoes, to being an FR for a decade, Stephen is finally able to build out his entrepreneurial dream at Elevate Financial. His motivator for bringing new talent into the Guardian system is the belief that FRs have the most impactful career.

For those who want to be a successful FR? Stephen advises, “Use your past experience to make you hungry and succeed.”

“If you’re doing the right thing for people, they know it, and they feel it, and they’re going to give you referrals because they want their friends to meet you. That’s been my experience —and I love it.”

Chuck Nettles

Lifetime Financial Growth (LFG)

Chuck, an FR who began his career with Lifetime Financial Growth (LFG) in 2011, also has a personal connection with his charity — the Timothy E. Nettles Memorial Fund. This fund, which is dedicated to his father, raises money for charities focused on children, education, and golf. The organization holds an annual commemorative Pro-Am golf tournament and offers endowed scholarships for golf caddies in the                                                      local community.

Chuck is deeply grateful for Earl Luttner, Lou Valli, and Bill Gorman — individuals who changed the life trajectory of his family and himself. They welcomed him back to the life insurance and planning field after his father’s passing influenced him to change career paths.

“This career has provided me an opportunity to turn the worst day of my life into something good and I’m deeply grateful for that.”

That something good includes introducing the field to new candidates. “I think there’s no better business in the world where we can make an unlimited income while changing people’s lives for the better.” His advice to be a successful FR? “Be curious. It’s easy for a young person to go with the flow and just fall in line.
Ask good questions, step up, take a chance, and make mistakes.”

Reflecting on his career, Chuck resonates with a line from Bob Ball: “There might be somebody that loves permanent life insurance as much as I do, but there’s nobody that loves life insurance more than I do.”

“The donation from Guardian is making a big difference in the lives of young people in Western Pennsylvania
and beyond.”

Justin Law

North/Central Florida

Justin, an FR at North Florida Financial who just began his fourth contract year at Guardian, chose the Baller Dream Foundation (BDF) as his charity. He was inspired to do so after seeing the organization uplift children and young adults fighting cancer alongside their families. Justin resonated with founder Frank DeBlasi’s story about fighting childhood cancer and how that led to BDF’s mission.

“It’s called the Baller Dream Foundation because Frank doesn’t want to refer to people as patients. They came up with the name of referring to them with a positive connotation. He gets to know those Ballers on a personal level, with their families, and provides a life-changing experience.”

Justin also had the privilege to attend a 15-year-old Baller’s ceremony (an event to celebrate those who recently survived cancer).

Paying it forward is another way Justin makes an impact, specifically when it comes to talent introductions. As an FR, he loves being a student of the craft by finding new challenges and adventures, while improving his skill set.

“There are constantly new doors being opened with this career that have provided incredible blessings for my family. I can’t help but feel that it would be very selfish of me not to want to share that awesome opportunity with others,” said Justin.

“The more I learned about the charity, it spoke volumes. I wanted to make sure that I was donating and making a firsthand impact here in my local community.”

Jim (Robert) Cunningham

Red River

Jim, a second-time TIP Top Honor award winner, began his insurance career in property & casualty in 2000 and started Inspire Financial Group with his business partner Josh Wawrzonek about six years ago. Previously a Southern Baptist minister for 20 years, Jim’s charity of choice was Family for Life, a nonprofit child-placing agency based in Owasso, OK, that recruits and supports foster families.

His connection with the charity began after seeing Josh’s involvement with the organization. “Josh and his wife, Kelly, got into fostering and they took a child into their household."

He believes fostering spoke to him because it’s such a giving and selfless act.

“I see someone who has a foster child and how giving that family has been. The biological children in the household also learn so much when another child is brought into their home — they care for them like their brother or sister.”

For Jim, this sense of support and caring for others are also key characteristics to look for when recruiting successful FRs. “We look for people who want not a path where they can make a lot of money, but one where they know that this is for them — those who want to impact the lives of other people.”

“I watched what was going on from the outside and saw how it not only impacted their lives, but also the child’s life. I was blown away by that.”

Vincent M. D’Addona

Strategies for Wealth

Vince, a longtime FR, continues to be a contributor to the success of Guardian. He chose the Finseca Foundation as his charity grant recipient. The organization, which is dedicated to being a resource for those in the financial security profession, aims to create a community that supports top financial security professionals in their work.

As a board member of Finseca, Vince believes that the Finseca Foundation has a worthy message and he appreciates its involvement in the profession where he has built such a fulfilling career. “They promote the profession and they promote recruiting and messaging in the profession as well.”

Vince’s passion for financial services is second-to-none. With the challenges that come with being an FR, Vince’s advice to new candidates is to play the long game and understand that it’s a cyclical business.

“You have to be able to attract people to you, be a good communicator, and create value. When you do, your clients will let you be their guide.”

Another valuable insight? Be coachable. “When you first come into this business, your job is to learn, execute, and be honest about your results and activities. This way, your mentor can say, ‘We have a breakdown here... let’s take a look and see how we can make adjustments,’” Vince explained.

“This is a great business because it’s one of the few places where you can make a real difference in the financial outcomes for
a family.”

Shaping the next generation

Together, the five award winners for this year’s Talent Introduction Program Top Honor Awards share a common passion for shaping the next generation of FRs, while supporting charities that positively impact their local communities and beyond. By introducing new talent, Financial Representatives play an integral role in Guardian’s mission to help people protect what they love most and inspire their well-being for years to come. As North Florida Financial’s Justin Law puts it: “Bringing and attracting new talent into the career is such a vital piece for all of us in the Guardian family.”

Congratulations to the Guardian Financial Representatives who have been recognized as some of the “best of the best” in our industry. Two years in a row, our FRs have proven they are standout financial professionals. In October 2021, Forbes announced its inaugural ranking of America’s Top Financial Security Professionals. Thirteen (13) FRs were honored on that list. Then, when Forbes released their 2022 list in July, 11 Guardian FRs made the cut.
The Forbes Top Financial Security Professionals list highlights those insurance professionals who develop meaningful client relationships — diligently working to help individuals, families, and business owners protect against risk, while striving to build and preserve their wealth.
Forbes works with SHOOK® Research1 to select the winners. They evaluate candidates based upon various criteria, including best practices when working with clients, the client experience they provide (including service model, planning process, breadth of services, etc.), client persistency rates, community involvement, and more.

Neither SHOOK nor Forbes receives any compensation in exchange for placement on its Top Financial Security Professional (FSP) rankings, which are determined independently (see methodology). FSP refers to professionals who are properly licensed to sell life insurance and annuities. FSPs may also hold other credentials and licenses which would allow them to offer investments and securities products through those licenses. Ranking algorithm is based on qualitative measures learned through telephone, virtual and in-person interviews to measure best practices, client retention, industry experience, credentials, review of compliance records, firm nominations; and quantitative criteria, such as: assets under management, sales figures and revenue generated for their firms. Investment performance is not a criterion because client objectives and risk tolerances vary, and these professionals rarely have audited performance reports. Individuals must carefully choose the right FSP for their own situation and perform their own due diligence. SHOOK’s research and rankings provide opinions intended to help individuals choose the right FSP and are not indicative of future performance or representative of any one client’s experience. Past performance is not an indication of future results. For more information, please see www.SHOOKresearch.com. SHOOK is a registered trademark of SHOOK Research, LLC.

2 This award is not issued by Guardian or its subsidiaries. The annual Forbes ranking of Best-In-State Wealth Advisors List 2022 is based on criteria developed and obtained by SHOOK Research, LLC. No compensation was provided in connection with obtaining this rating; however, advisors may choose to pay fees to Forbes and Shook for premium listing features; including, usage rights of the ranking logo.
